Updated May 2023 – In 2023, Globe BMX will be once again be implementing a volunteer bond to ensure that every family can contribute a fair and equal amount of their time back to the club. Just like in years past, we kept the requirements low-impact and easy to achieve as we know that families are busy units and volunteering every night isn’t always an option! Here’s how it all works….
HOW TO PAY YOUR BOND
In order to get yours or your riders racing plate(s), which is needed to practice and race, families will be asked to bring a cheque for $100/family to their first night of practice/racing. Handing in your bond should be done with Jen at the registration table.
Handing us that cheque is your contract. It means you are committed to fulfilling 10 volunteer credits throughout the 2022 racing season. If you do not fulfill that commitment, the cheque will be cashed at the end of the racing season and the money will go back to the club.
- There are NO exceptions
- Credits vs. money paid is not prorated at the end of the season, even if you make it to 9 credits for example
- You must fulfill all 10
HOW TO EARN CREDITS
Our season runs from mid-May to mid-September, with over 20+ races or events to volunteer at, and over 10+ positions each event, practice or race night.
Here is a breakdown of how to earn credits:
Sunday Practice Volunteer = 1 credit
Thursday Race Night Volunteer (Any non-commissaire position) = 1 credit
Thursday Race Night Volunteer (Commissaire position) = 2 credits
Scheduled Track Maintenance = 2 credits
Special Event Volunteer* = 2 credits
*1 shift is usually around 2-4 hours of time. 2 credits for each shift worked. Special events include Fall Classic & SK Cup Race Weekends
Total required = 10 credits per family
HOW ARE CREDITS TRACKED?
Credits will be tracked by a Globe BMX board member each time you sign up for a position on volunteersignup.org (our online volunteer platform) PRIOR to a race night or event and then fulfill your role. This not only ensures that we have volunteers in advance of races and events, but it also ensure we have our volunteers and credits being tracked properly.
CAN OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS VOLUNTEER ON MY FAMILIES BEHALF?
We think so, yeah! It’s not uncommon that Grandpa and Grandma have put in time on the track or filled a shift at the concession, and we think all volunteer time deserves credits. Just make sure they note which family they want their credits to go to when signing the volunteer sheet!
WHAT IF OUR FAMILY EARNS MORE THAN 10 CREDITS?
We are SO appreciative of all volunteer hours. If you are able to put in more than 10, we’ll still give thanks and high fives, as well as track them for data measurement purposes, so we know for future seasons how this all worked, what to improve, etc.
